FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions for a Wisconsin Commercial Contractor.

Hiring an electrical contractor in Wisconsin? Start with the questions general contractors and owners ask us most.

Licensing & Credentials

Is WIL-Surge a licensed electrical contractor in Wisconsin?

Yes. WIL-Surge Electric holds Wisconsin electrical contractor license #1103087-EC, issued through the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS). Our crews are led by DSPS-credentialed master electricians and journeymen, and the company has remained licensed, bonded, and insured since 1993. Company credentials and history appear on the About WIL-Surge page.

Is WIL-Surge bonded and insured?

Yes. WIL-Surge operates licensed, bonded, and insured, and has since 1993. General contractors and owners who need proof for prequalification can request insurance certificates and bonding capacity from our estimating team. Our safety record and prequalification page summarizes the documents available.

Bidding & Prequalification

How do I request a bid or quote?

Submit your project scope, location, and timeline through the Request a Quote form, or call (262) 781-9210. A real estimator reviews every request, not an auto-responder, and calls with clarifying questions within one business day. You can also email plans and specs to estimating@wilsurge.com.

What should I include with a bid request?

The more you share, the tighter the number. Helpful details include a link to your plans, the square footage, target dates, and the delivery method, whether hard bid, design-build, or negotiated. Our bid request form also asks which trades are in your scope and your budget range, so estimating prices the right work.

Does WIL-Surge bid public projects?

Yes. Much of our work is publicly bid for counties, municipalities, and school districts, and we bid to public procurement standards. Public work includes the Waukesha County Courthouse renovation, DPW facilities for the Cities of Pewaukee and West Allis, and the Racine Unified Aquatic Facility. See them on our projects page.

Service Area

What areas of Wisconsin does WIL-Surge serve?

WIL-Surge serves Wisconsin statewide from its headquarters in Butler, in the Milwaukee metro. In-house crews and our own fleet travel to commercial, municipal, and institutional projects across the state, so owners get the same crews and standards wherever the job is. See the markets we serve across Wisconsin.

Does WIL-Surge work in Madison and Dane County?

Yes. WIL-Surge serves Madison and greater Dane County from its Butler headquarters, including Middleton, Fitchburg, Sun Prairie, and Verona. Our work there includes the five-story Wisconsin History Center. Local services and communities are covered on our Madison commercial electricians page.

Crews

Does WIL-Surge self-perform or subcontract?

WIL-Surge self-performs. Seventeen electrical, mechanical, and civil trades are delivered by in-house crews working out of our own fleet. That keeps schedules, safety, and quality under one contract, with one point of contact from preconstruction to closeout. Every trade is listed on our Services page.

Can WIL-Surge handle electrical and mechanical scopes under one contract?

Yes. WIL-Surge self-performs electrical and mechanical/HVAC scopes under one contract, giving general contractors one schedule instead of separate subcontractor agreements. A single team coordinates the trades package, and fewer handoffs mean faster answers when questions come up. Explore our mechanical and HVAC services.

Safety & Compliance

What does WIL-Surge's safety program include?

Our crews work under a safety-first program built on NFPA 70E standards and led by our safety director. Crews train to NFPA 70E, regular toolbox talks keep safety in front of every crew, and self-performing our trades means one set of safety expectations on every job. Learn more on our safety record page.

Does WIL-Surge perform arc flash studies?

Yes. We perform NFPA 70E arc flash studies, hazard analysis, labeling, and mitigation planning for existing facilities and new builds, protecting your people and your compliance posture. Our licensed master electricians carry the work from study to labeled equipment. See our arc flash studies and NFPA 70E compliance page.

Can WIL-Surge work in occupied buildings?

Yes. WIL-Surge is renovating the Waukesha County Courthouse while the building stays occupied, phasing electrical, lighting, fire alarm, and low voltage work around daily operations. The same approach applies to occupied offices, clinics, and public facilities. See more of this work in our projects portfolio.
