Commercial & Retail Construction Services.
Retail centers, distribution centers, office buildings, and mixed-use developments delivered on GC schedules.
WIL-Surge Electric is a retail electrical contractor and commercial contractor for retail centers, distribution centers, office buildings, and mixed-use developments across Wisconsin. We deliver on general contractor schedules with self-performed electrical, mechanical & HVAC, and civil scopes, so one company carries the work from preconstruction to closeout.
Retail Construction
New retail buildings have to open on time. Our crews handle the power and lighting for retail construction, along with low voltage systems for fire alarm, security cameras, and access control. We also install network & data cabling for point-of-sale and back-office systems.
Rooftop units heat and cool most retail buildings. Our HVAC crews install new rooftop units for retail construction and handle rooftop unit replacement, from removing the old unit through setting, connecting, and starting up the new one. Because we carry the electrical scope too, the power feeding each unit is handled by the same company.
Distribution Centers
Distribution centers run on big loads and long operating hours. We deliver the electrical work behind them: service and power distribution sized for the building's loads, high-bay lighting across warehouse floors, and parking lot and site lighting for yards and loading areas.
Office & Mixed-Use
Office buildings and mixed-use developments need systems that serve many tenants and uses at once. Our crews install the power, lighting, and network systems these buildings run on, from interior and site lighting to LED retrofits, lighting controls, and data cabling. See our commercial lighting contractors for lighting design-build and retrofits.
Our commercial HVAC crews install and maintain the heating, cooling, and ventilation systems alongside the electrical work, so both are coordinated from one set of plans.
Why Owners Choose WIL-Surge
Commercial and retail clients hire WIL-Surge Electric because self-performed trades compress occupancy dates. Our in-house crews carry the electrical, mechanical, and civil work under one contract, with one schedule and one point of contact, so there are fewer handoffs between trades to slow a project down.
We hold Wisconsin electrical contractor license #1103087-EC and HVAC contractor license #1029-HVACCONT, and we have served Wisconsin owners and general contractors since 1993.
Planning a Commercial or Retail Project
Owners planning a commercial or retail building do well to lock down the decisions that drive electrical and mechanical cost early: the size of the service, the lighting design, rooftop unit selections, and the low voltage and data systems each space needs. Changes to those items after rough-in are where budgets and occupancy dates tend to slip.
Opening dates deserve the same attention. Inspections, equipment lead times, and startup of rooftop units and fire alarm systems all have to be complete before a building can open, so they belong on the schedule from the first meeting, not the last month. Distribution centers add another layer, since loading areas, site lighting, and high-bay lighting often need to be ready before the operator can move in.
What to Have Ready Before Requesting a Bid
A complete bid starts with complete information. Our quote request asks for the project name and city, your role on the project, the delivery method, a budget range, the timeline, square footage, and a link to the plans.
Beyond the drawings, it helps to share site conditions, schedule constraints such as a target opening date, and whether the project is a hard bid, design-build, or negotiated. On design-build work, bringing us in during preconstruction lets the electrical, mechanical, and civil scopes be priced and planned together before the design is final.
Projects

Complete electrical for the 100,000+ ft² indoor sports complex in Oak Creek, including power for turf fields and courts, high-efficiency sports lighting, and infrastructure for daycare, event, and admin spaces.
Milwaukee Yard brings athletic, daycare, event, and admin space under one roof, and our crews delivered the electrical for all of it. See more in our projects portfolio.
