Utilities & Power Delivery

Power Distribution & Utility Construction.

Utility coordination, medium-voltage distribution, and power delivery infrastructure for public and private utilities.

WIL-Surge Electric is a utility electrical contractor for public and private utilities across Wisconsin. Our licensed crews build and maintain substations, transformers, and switchgear, handle utility coordination and medium-voltage distribution, and route power underground with trenching and directional boring, all with in-house crews and our own fleet.

We work directly for utilities, including utility companies, electric cooperatives, and municipal utilities, and we build the substations and service equipment behind private facilities that connect to the grid.

Utility & Substation Work

Power distribution projects span substation construction, transformers, switchgear, and utility interconnection. Our crews construct and service substations, including grounding, relay testing, and interconnection, so a station is built, tested, and ready to energize by the same team.

On private sites, we coordinate with the serving utility on interconnection, outages, and power delivery infrastructure, so the handoff between the utility and the facility is planned instead of improvised. Inside the facility, our power distribution crews install the switchgear and distribution equipment that carries that power to where it's used.

EV Charging & Battery Storage

New loads and new sources are changing how power moves. We install EV charging stations and battery storage systems, along with the service upgrades, distribution, and utility coordination they need, so chargers and storage are sized and connected as part of the larger electrical system rather than bolted on.

Because our crews already build the substations, switchgear, and underground feeders behind these systems, owners and utilities get one contractor for the whole path, from the grid connection to the charger or battery.

High-Voltage Capabilities

Our high voltage contractors design-build and maintain high voltage systems, including medium-voltage distribution, transformers, and medium-voltage switchgear, for utilities and facilities that cannot afford downtime. The same licensed crews that build a system come back to test and maintain it.

Underground Utility Work

Power delivery often runs underground. Our underground utility crews handle trenching, directional boring, and concrete-encased duct banks for feeders and services, calling in Digger's Hotline tickets before every dig. Where existing lines run close to the work, hydro excavation exposes them safely.

Planning for Lead Times & Outages

Power delivery projects are often paced by equipment. Transformers, medium-voltage switchgear, and substation components can carry long manufacturer lead times, so ordering decisions made during design have a direct effect on when a project can energize. Locking in equipment specifications early protects the schedule more than almost anything done in the field.

Outages need the same forward planning. Switching and interconnection work has to be coordinated with the serving utility, and the windows available for it may be limited by load, season, or the needs of customers on the system. Building outage windows into the schedule from the start, and finishing grounding and relay testing ahead of them, keeps equipment out of service for as short a time as possible.

One Contractor From Trench to Substation

Utility and power delivery work crosses several trades. A single project can include excavation, duct banks, concrete pads and foundations, substation equipment, and the medium-voltage connections between them. When each piece is held by a different contractor, the schedule depends on every handoff going right, and coordination time between them is time the project isn't moving forward.

WIL-Surge Electric self-performs those scopes with in-house crews and our own fleet, from foundations and equipment pads to the switchgear and transformers they carry. For utility companies, electric cooperatives, and municipal utilities, that means one contract and one schedule covering the civil and electrical work together.

When requesting a bid, share the plans, the utility standards or specifications that apply, and any known outage constraints, so the estimate reflects how the work will actually be sequenced.
