Select Demolition Contractors, Interior & Controlled.
Safe, controlled demolition that clears the way for renovation without disrupting the spaces around it.
WIL-Surge Electric is a select demolition contractor for commercial renovations across Wisconsin. Our in-house crews handle interior strip-out and controlled structural removal, clearing existing spaces ahead of new construction while protecting the parts of the building that stay.
Select demolition is targeted work, not whole-building demolition. We take out what the renovation needs removed, coordinate debris removal and recycling, and leave a clean, ready space for the trades that follow.
Surveying What Stays & What Goes
Every select demolition project starts by defining exactly what comes out. A walk-through of the space, compared against the renovation drawings, sorts walls, ceilings, flooring, and systems into what is removed, what stays, and what needs protection. Items that stay are best marked clearly in the field, so there is no question at the moment a crew reaches them.
Hidden conditions deserve attention too. Existing drawings rarely show every circuit or duct running through a wall or above a ceiling, so systems are traced to learn what they serve before they are cut, and anything feeding space that remains in use is made safe or rerouted first.
The survey also shapes how demolition fits with the new work. Knowing what is being removed, and what the new design needs in its place, lets crews leave existing structure and openings ready for the trades that follow rather than taking out something the new work would have reused.
Protecting Adjacent Finishes
In a renovation, the finished spaces next to the work are often worth more than the materials being removed. Floors along the routes crews and debris travel are covered, doorways into finished areas are sealed, and walls, casework, and equipment that stay inside the work area are protected in place before demolition starts.
Protection isn't only about dust. Removing concrete or cutting new openings can send vibration through the structure to finishes on the other side of a wall, so the removal method is matched to what surrounds it, favoring controlled cutting over heavy impact where nearby finishes are sensitive.
Debris routes matter as well. Planning how material leaves the building, and keeping that path protected and clean, prevents damage to corridors and entries the building still uses. Protection comes down only once the space is clean, so finished areas are handed back in the condition they were found.
Interior Strip-Out
Interior demolition takes a space back to what the new design needs. Our crews remove ceilings, walls, and flooring, along with the old electrical and mechanical systems that are being replaced.
Because we self-perform electrical and mechanical work, the systems coming out are identified by crews who understand how they tie into the systems that stay, so removal doesn't cut off power or service to the rest of the building.
Controlled Structural Removal
Some renovations need more than a strip-out. Our crews remove concrete slabs and walls and cut new openings, taking out only what the plans call for so the surrounding structure stays intact.
When new work goes back in, our own concrete crews can pour it, keeping removal and replacement under one contract and one schedule.
Occupied-Facility Demolition
Many renovations happen while a building stays open. Demolition in an occupied facility has to keep dust, debris, and disruption out of the offices, clinics, and public spaces operating next door.
We know that environment well. Our electrical crews are working through the occupied 151,000 ft² Waukesha County Courthouse renovation now, phasing the work around a building that stays open. See more in our projects portfolio.
Recycling & Salvage
Demolition debris doesn't all have to go to a landfill. We coordinate debris removal and haul materials off site, recycling them where possible, so the space is cleared without leaving a mess for the next trade.
Dust & Safety Controls
Dust is the biggest risk demolition poses to the spaces around it. Our crews seal the work area off with plastic containment walls, run negative air machines so air flows into the work area rather than out of it, and use HEPA filtration to capture fine dust before it can travel.
Those controls protect occupants and finished spaces, and they protect our own crews, who work under the same safety program that follows every WIL-Surge Electric job.
