Sports Lighting Contractors for Fields, Stadiums & Municipal Parks.
LED sports lighting, pole installation, and maintenance programs by in-house crews across Wisconsin.
WIL-Surge Electric is a sports lighting contractor for athletic complexes, stadiums, municipal parks, school fields, and aquatic facilities across Wisconsin. Our in-house crews install, upgrade, and maintain sports lighting engineered for spill-light control and broadcast-quality output, with the power behind it handled by the same licensed electrical team.
LED Sports Lighting Retrofits
Older sports lighting wastes energy and light. An LED sports field lighting retrofit replaces outdated fixtures with efficient LED lighting aimed where play happens, so baseball fields, football stadiums, and multi-use fields get even, glare-controlled light without spilling into neighboring homes and streets.
New Pole Installation
New fields need poles that last. Our crews handle durable pole installation for fields, parking lots, and roadways, including bases, poles, wiring, and fixtures, built to stand up to Wisconsin winters. Because we self-perform the electrical scope, the feeders and controls for your football stadium lights or baseball field lighting are planned by the same team that sets the poles.
Planning a Field Lighting Project
Every sports lighting project starts with how the field will be used. A youth baseball diamond, a high school football stadium, and a multi-use park field each call for different light levels and uniformity, and competitive play generally needs more light and more even coverage than recreational use. Athletic associations and governing bodies publish their own guidance, so confirm which standards apply to your level of play before fixtures are selected.
It also pays to plan for the future. If a field may host a higher level of play later, poles, foundations, and the electrical service can be sized now so fixtures can be added or upgraded without starting over.
Pole Placement, Glare & Spill Light
Pole locations shape the experience on the field and in the neighborhood around it. Poles set outside the field of play keep athletes safe and sightlines clear, while mounting height and aiming angles determine how well light reaches the far side of the field without shining into players' eyes. Taller poles with well-aimed fixtures generally put more light on the field and less beyond it.
For fields near homes and streets, spill light and glare are often the biggest concerns raised in public meetings, and some communities set limits on light leaving a site. A photometric layout shows where light will land before poles go up, and the underground feeders, bases, and electrical service should be planned around those pole locations from the start.
Municipal & School Fields
Cities, villages, and park districts rely on us to light municipal parks and public athletic fields, and school districts rely on us for athletic complexes and aquatic centers. Much of that work is publicly bid, and school projects are completed around the academic calendar.
At the 53,000 ft² Racine Unified Aquatic Facility, our scope included sports lighting over the competition pools, diving well, and training pool.
Milwaukee Yard Case Study

Complete electrical for the 100,000+ ft² indoor sports complex in Oak Creek, including power for turf fields and courts, high-efficiency sports lighting, and infrastructure for daycare, event, and admin spaces.
The sports lighting was delivered alongside the rest of the building's electrical by the same in-house crews. Read the full Milwaukee Yard project.
Energy Savings
LED sports lighting uses less energy than the fixtures it replaces, and lighting controls make sure fields are only lit when and where they are needed. Together they cut energy costs for schools, parks, and athletic facilities while improving light quality for players and spectators. Lighting Controls & Scheduling
Controls decide when a field is lit and how much. Scheduling lets a park department or athletic director match lighting to practice and game times, turn fields off automatically after play ends, and light only the areas in use. Many LED systems can also run at reduced output for practice and full output for games.
What to Gather Before Requesting a Quote
A few details make sports lighting pricing faster and more accurate. Athletic directors and park departments should gather a site plan or aerial image of the field, the sports and levels of play it will host, the location and age of any existing poles and fixtures, and information on the electrical service that feeds the site.
Note nearby homes, roads, and parking areas, any outdoor lighting limits the municipality has set, and the time of year when construction can happen without disrupting a playing season. For publicly bid projects, share the bid timeline and any specifications already drafted.
Maintenance Programs
Sports lighting has to work on game night. Our maintenance programs put fields, poles, and fixtures on a regular service schedule, so problems get caught and fixed before the season instead of during it. Our crews handle pole and fixture maintenance, repairs, and relamping for the systems we install and the ones already in place.
