Commercial Electrical Service & Maintenance.
Repairs, preventive maintenance, thermal scanning, and upgrades by in-house crews and licensed electricians.
Our work doesn't end at closeout. WIL-Surge Electric provides commercial electrical service across Wisconsin for facility owners and managers, including repairs, preventive maintenance, infrared scanning, and equipment upgrades for the systems we install and the ones we didn't, delivered by the same in-house crews that build our projects.
Electrical Service & Repair
When something stops working, our service crews troubleshoot the problem, replace failed equipment, and correct code issues, with documented diagnostics so you know what was found and what was fixed. We service distribution systems, high voltage equipment, and lighting poles in commercial and industrial buildings.
Service requests are handled during office hours (Mon–Fri, 7am–4pm); call (262) 781-9210 to reach our team.
Preventive Maintenance
Preventive electrical maintenance catches problems before they turn into outages. We put switchgear, panels, distribution equipment, and lighting on a scheduled maintenance plan, so worn components, loose connections, and code issues get addressed on your schedule instead of during a failure.
What a Maintenance Visit Typically Covers
Every plan is built around the facility's own equipment, but most preventive maintenance visits follow a similar pattern. Electricians start with a visual inspection of switchgear, panelboards, transformers, and disconnects, looking for dust, moisture, corrosion, damaged insulation, and discoloration that points to overheating. Electrical rooms are checked for missing covers, blocked working clearances, and storage that has crept in over time.
From there, a visit can include cleaning equipment, checking and tightening connections, confirming that breakers and disconnects operate as they should, and infrared scanning of energized equipment under load. Interior, exterior, and site lighting is checked for failed fixtures and controls that no longer match the building's hours. Findings are documented so owners know what was observed, what was corrected, and what should be planned next.
Warning Signs Between Visits
Electrical problems often give notice before they cause an outage. Facility staff should watch for breakers that trip repeatedly, lights that flicker or dim when large equipment starts, panels or cover plates that feel warm, buzzing from electrical equipment, and discolored or scorched outlets and terminations. Extension cords and power strips multiplying around a space can also be a sign that a building has outgrown its circuits.
Signs like these shouldn't wait for the next scheduled visit, so report them to your electrical contractor when you notice them. Writing down when the problem happens, and what equipment was running at the time, helps a service electrician track down the cause. Keep people away from any equipment that shows smoke, burning odors, or arcing. Those are safety hazards first.
Infrared & Thermal Scanning
Many electrical failures start as heat. An infrared electrical inspection uses thermal scanning to find hot spots in panels, switchgear, and connections that can't be seen with the eye, so problems like loose terminations or overloaded circuits can be repaired before they fail.
Panel & Equipment Upgrades
Older buildings outgrow their electrical systems. We handle commercial electrical panel upgrades, equipment replacement, and code corrections, and when a facility needs more capacity, our power distribution crews upgrade the switchgear, transformers, and feeders behind it.
Repair or Upgrade?
When equipment fails, the first question is whether to fix it or replace it. Repair usually makes sense when the equipment is in good overall condition, parts are readily available, and the system still has capacity for the building's needs. Replacement deserves a closer look when the same equipment keeps failing, parts are obsolete or hard to find, the building has added loads the original system was never sized for, or a planned renovation will change how power is used.
Planning upgrades before they become urgent gives owners control over budget and timing. A shutdown scheduled around the building's operations is far less disruptive than one forced by a failure, and it leaves time to coordinate with the utility when service changes are involved. Changes to the distribution system can also affect arc flash results, so studies and labels should be reviewed as part of the upgrade. See our arc flash studies.
Keeping Electrical Records
Good records make every service call faster and every upgrade easier to plan. Facility managers should keep current one-line diagrams, accurate panel schedules in each panel, equipment nameplate data, and the reports from past maintenance and infrared scans. Tracking when equipment was installed, repaired, or modified reveals patterns that point to failing components and helps set realistic replacement budgets.
When electrical work is completed, update the drawings and panel schedules right away. The next electrician to open that panel will be counting on them. Keeping arc flash study reports, permits, and inspection records with the rest of the electrical documentation also puts everything in one place when an insurer, inspector, or contractor asks for it.
Service Fleet & Licensed Electricians
Service calls are handled by in-house crews working out of our own fleet. Our DSPS-credentialed master electricians and journeymen work under Wisconsin electrical contractor license #1103087-EC and a safety-first program built on NFPA 70E standards.
Service Agreements
A service agreement puts your facility's electrical maintenance on a regular schedule. Agreements can combine preventive maintenance and infrared scanning with service when you need it, giving facility managers one contractor responsible for keeping electrical systems running.
